After completing the Alberta Health Services Edmonton Zone Residency program in 2014, Taryn started working on the Cardiovascular Surgery step down unit in the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (MAHI). In this role, Taryn is actively involved in many operations and quality improvement initiatives as well as advocates for safe and effective medication administration.

Taryn has a vital role in daily bedside rounds with the nurse practitioners, discharge planning, patient education, and seamless care as patient’s transition back to their communities. Taryn’s true passion in her practice is the patient. “The most rewarding patient encounters have been when the patient becomes empowered to participate in the management of their own health,” says Taryn.

Taryn volunteers her time outside of her work commitments to inspire and aid the future of the profession of pharmacy. She is currently the vice chair for the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) Alberta branch awards committee, and is a preceptor for the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Pharmacy. During Taryn’s residency program, she completed a research project examining the patterns and practices of hospital pharmacists prescribing in Alberta. This project gained national recognition winning a CSHP Residency Research Award.
