2020 Award of Excellence: Taciana Pereira
Program Performance and Informatics Director, Pharmacy services
Alberta Health Services
The Award of Excellence is awarded to a pharmacist for their exceptional work, commitment, and innovation in making a notable contribution to pharmacy and the community through a single unique accomplishment or contribution.
This year’s recipient, Taciana Pereira, was recognized for her contributions to the Clinical Knowledge and Content Management Program, a part of Alberta Health Services (AHS) responsible for the planning and launch of Connect Care, the new electronic clinical information system used to facilitate patient care at AHS facilities. As part of this team, Taciana worked with leadership across AHS and to promote a content development model where there is a collaborative approach between pharmacists, physicians, and other care team members. She helped to put operational practices into place that support pharmacists working side by side with prescribers to recommend drugs, dosages, and best practice information. Taciana is an advocate for the inclusion of pharmacists, and in doing so, she also advocates for patients across the province by creating opportunities for collaborative care to provide the best possible medication treatments for medical conditions.
“Taciana’s dedication and commitment to Connect Care has helped create the future of hospital pharmacy in Canada. Alberta is now leading in the practice of standardization and innovation in medication system design,” said Kelly Olstad, Executive Director of Pharmacy of AHS Edmonton Zone, one of Taciana’s colleagues and nominators. “Taciana’s outstanding achievement in the field of pharmacy will benefit all Albertans for generations to come,” added Kelly.
“Taciana is an emerging leader; she is passionate about collaboration and fostering a team approach, while at the same time, she pushes an agenda forward which supports the inclusion of the pharmacist in promoting positive patient outcomes,” said Debbie Pinter, Executive Director of the Clinical Knowledge and Content Management Team at AHS, who co-nominated Taciana for the award.
