2021 Friend of Pharmacy: Rose Dehod

Rose Dehod
Manager of Professional Development (retired)
Alberta Pharmacists' Association (RxA)

The Friend of Pharmacy Award is presented to a non-pharmacist/non-pharmacy technician who has contributed significantly to the success of the pharmacist profession.

This year’s recipient is Rose Dehod, the former Manager of Professional Development with the Alberta Pharmacists' Association (RxA). Acting with integrity and an unwavering commitment to professional development, Rose made vital contributions to the profession of pharmacy during her 17 years (2001-2019) with RxA.

In her role as manager of professional development, Rose helped many pharmacists move forward in their development as clinicians. This work has ultimately enhanced the care that Albertans receive from their pharmacist.

Having a background in education, she understood the importance of developing informative and high-quality programs. When Alberta pharmacists’ scope of practice changed in 2007, a need for Alberta-specific pharmacy professional development quickly formed. Rose recognized this need and was instrumental in implementing key learning programs such as the Preparation to Administer Injections, Immunizations Course, and the Preparing to Apply for Additional Prescribing Authorization Course. These courses were critical in the early years to support Alberta's expanded scope of practice which is admired worldwide.

Rose was also fundamental in the inception and growth of RxA’s Trusted Partners in Health Professional Development Conferences, RxA’s online learning platform, as well as RxA successfully becoming a CCCEP Accredited Provider. During her time at RxA, she was responsible for the planning of over 450 continuing education sessions.

"Rose helped so many pharmacists move forward in their development as clinicians," said Todd Prochnau, Pharmacist and co-nominator for the award. "This work has ultimately improved the care that Albertans receive across the province from their pharmacist."
