Human Factors in Healthcare course

Learn how to apply human factors practices in health care to enhance quality improvement and patient safety. 

Human factors studies the interrelationship between humans, the tools and equipment they use in the workplace, and the environment in which they work. During this three-day course, you will explore the role of human factors in healthcare using hands-on activities and case studies in various clinical areas. 

After this course, you will be able to

  • understand and describe the applicability of human factors in healthcare across a variety of areas, including medication safety, procurement, process evaluation and capital planning;
  • recognize when human factors considerations or involvement is applicable in the work you do; and
  • ​apply human factors practices to enhance quality improvement and patient safety.

The course is presented by the Health Quality Council of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, W21C, and the University of Calgary and is available in both Calgary (March 13, 20, and 27, 2023) and Edmonton (April 12-14, 2023).
