Proposed amendment to the ACP Bylaws

Eligibility of individuals to be appointed as registrar

Introduction

Council has approved an amendment to s 37(3) of the ACP Bylaws for the purpose of consultation. Section 37(3) of ACP’s bylaws currently requires that the registrar must be a voting member in good standing with the college.

  • The bylaws define voting members as
    • s1(l) – voting member means a clinical pharmacist, an honorary life pharmacist registrant, a pharmacy technician, or an honorary life pharmacy technician registrant, as the case may be.
      • NOTE: In that context, a person eligible to be registered as a voting member is an eligible candidate for the position of registrar.

Council has proposed an amendment to the bylaw, removing the requirement for the registrar to be a voting member in good standing with the college. If approved, this means that the registrar would not be required to be a voting member, or an individual eligible to become a voting member of the college.

The amendment was recommended by the succession planning committee for the following reasons:

“Individuals eligible to register with ACP will continue to be a target market for our search. It opens the possibility to consider all potential leaders who have the leadership capacity and character to lead ACP forward. In today’s complex and constantly evolving regulatory environment, having extensive expertise in the field of pharmacy may not be the essential requirement it once was. To ensure the success of our recruitment and the future of ACP, we must recognize the potential significance of a diverse range of contextually relevant backgrounds and experiences.”
