Reinstatement requirements
If you were previously registered as a clinical pharmacist or a pharmacy technician in Alberta, you may be eligible for reinstatement. An applicant for reinstatement must provide evidence to the registrar of qualifications for registration. Reinstatement requirements differ depending on your current situation and how long you’ve been inactive in Alberta. Standard reinstatement requirements are outlined below; additional requirements may be prescribed by the registrar upon consideration of your application for reinstatement.
If you have been inactive in Alberta for less than three years, complete the following requirements:
- You must complete the courses on protecting patients from sexual abuse and sexual misconduct to comply with Bill 21 – An Act to Protect Patients (Chapter 9 of ACP’s Jurisprudence Learning Module).
- Additional requirements may apply based on your registration history.
If you have been inactive in Alberta for more than three years, complete the following requirements:
- the ACP Jurisprudence Learning Module,
- the ACP Ethics and Jurisprudence exam, and
- Additional requirements may apply based on your registration history.
If you have been inactive for less than three years, complete the following requirements:
- You must provide proof of 15 continuing education units (CEUs) per year of inactive status to a maximum of 30 CEUs.
- A minimum of 15 CEUs must have been completed within 12 months immediately preceding reinstatement. Remaining CEUs must be completed within 24 months immediately preceding reinstatement.
- If the CEUs you are using for reinstatement are accredited, submit the completion certificate for each of the CEUs you are claiming with your reinstatement application. If the CEUs are non-accredited, they must be logged on a learning record via the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) Portal. If you do not have access to the CCP Portal (i.e., not on the Associate register), please contact the Competence Department (competence@abpharmacy.ca) for a learning record.

If you have been inactive between three and six years, complete the following requirements:
- You must provide proof of 30 CEUs.
- A minimum of 15 CEUs must have been completed within 12 months immediately preceding reinstatement. Any remaining CEUs must be completed within 24 months immediately preceding reinstatement.
- If the CEUs you are using for reinstatement are accredited, submit the completion certificate for each of the CEUs you are claiming with your reinstatement application. If the CEUs are non-accredited, they must be logged on a learning record via the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) Portal. If you do not have access to the CCP Portal (i.e., not on the Associate register), please contact the Competence Department (competence@abpharmacy.ca) for a learning record.
- Complete the ACP Jurisprudence Learning Module.
- Complete the ACP Ethics and Jurisprudence exam.
- Complete ACP’s SPT program (Levels 2 and 3). If you are currently practising in the United States and can provide evidence that you have been providing direct patient care, you are only required to complete Level 3.
- Additional requirements may apply based on your registration history.
If you have been inactive for longer than six years in Alberta and not practising in another Canadian province or territory, your file must be reviewed by the registrar. Once the review is complete, the registrar will prescribe requirements which must be met to reinstate as a clinical pharmacist or pharmacy technician in Alberta.
Those requirements could include
- CEUs at the registrar's discretion,
- the ACP Jurisprudence Learning Module,
- the ACP Ethics and Jurisprudence exam,
- ACP’s Structured Practical Training (SPT) program (Levels 1 to 3) at the registrar's discretion,
- PEBC Qualifying Exams (one or both parts) at the registrar's discretion, and
- additional requirements may apply based on your registration history.
To complete the Jurisprudence Learning Module, the Ethics and Jurisprudence exam, and the SPT program, you must first apply for reinstatement in myACP and then complete the requirements as a provisional registrant.
Once the reinstatement requirements are completed, you will need to apply to the clinical pharmacist or pharmacy technician register in myACP. Additional information available in myACP.
Reinstatement application
If you were previously registered as a clinical pharmacist or pharmacy technician in Alberta, you may be eligible for reinstatement. Reinstatement requirements differ depending on your current situation and how long you’ve been inactive in Alberta.
- Contact the registration department (registrationinfo@abpharmacy.ca) to gain access to myACP.
- Prepare your supporting documentation. All documents must be in PDF format.
- The Registration Statutory Declaration that was declared before a notary public or a commissioner for oaths within the past six months. Out of province declarants must use a notary public.
- An Enhanced Police Information Check that was done within the past six months.
- A letter of standing from any Canadian or U.S. jurisdiction where you are currently or were previously practising. If you’ve only ever practised in Alberta, then the letter of standing is not required.
- If applicable, proof of continuing education units (CEUs).
- If the CEUs you are using for reinstatement are accredited, you will need to submit the completion certificate for each of the CEUs you are claiming with your reinstatement application. If the CEUs are non-accredited, they must be logged on a learning record via the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) Portal. If you do not have access to the CCP Portal (i.e., not on the Associate register), please contact the Competence Department (competence@abpharmacy.ca) for a learning record.
- Complete and submit your application.
- Once you are ready to apply complete the following steps:
- Access the application for reinstatement in myACP. All applications can be found in the Catalog.
- The application will require you to upload the supporting documentation you prepared in Step 2. Your application is not complete until all supporting documentation has been uploaded and you have submitted the application.
- Once you are ready to apply complete the following steps:

- Complete applications are reviewed in the order in which they are submitted and may take up to 15 business days to assess and process. Incomplete applications will result in further delays. ACP will notify you via email once your application has been reviewed to indicate next steps or if we have any questions regarding your application.
- Provide your payment.
- If approved, you will be required to provide payment online. The college’s fees are outlined in the ACP fee schedule. Only the following payment methods will be accepted:
- Visa
- Mastercard
- Payment must be provided within 30 days of your approval or your application will expire, and you will be required to apply again.

- Access your practice permit.
- Once payment has been processed your practice permit can be accessed from your myACP profile.
You may be initially placed on the provisional register to complete the reinstatement requirements. If you are required to complete the ACP Ethics and Jurisprudence exam, you are required to purchase an exam sitting available in myACP.
Once the reinstatement requirements are completed, you will need to apply to the clinical pharmacist or pharmacy technician register in myACP. Additional information available in myACP.
You must not practise until you receive notification that your practice permit is issued.
Previously a pharmacy student or provisional registrant (reapplication)
If you were previously on the pharmacy student, provisional pharmacist, provisional pharmacy technician, or courtesy register and your practice permit expired or was cancelled, you may reapply to the applicable register to complete the entry-to-practice requirements for pharmacists or the entry-to-practice requirements for pharmacy technicians. If you were on the student or provisional register but your permit expired before you completed the entry-to-practice requirements, you may be required to provide proof of PEBC certification obtained within the last three years before you can return to the student or provisional register.
If you were on the clinical pharmacist or pharmacy technician register, you are required to adhere to the reinstatement requirements and process.
- Contact the registration department (registrationinfo@abpharmacy.ca) to gain access to myACP.
- Prepare your supporting documentation. All documents must be in PDF format.
- Registration Statutory Declaration must be declared before a notary public or a commissioner for oaths within the past six months. Out of province declarants must use a notary public.
- An Enhanced Police Information Check must be current within the past six months.
- Proof of PEBC certification (if applicable).
- Evidence of name change (if applicable). If the name on any document is different from your legal name, you must submit a copy of either your name change or marriage certificate to confirm that you legally changed your name. This document DOES NOT need to be notarized.
- Complete and submit your application.
- Once you are ready to apply, complete the following steps:
- Access the application to reapply in myACP. All applications can be found in the Catalog.
