During each continuing education (CE) cycle of ACP’s Continuing Competence Program (CCP), pharmacy technicians and pharmacists reflect on their professional practice, identify a gap in the professional practice or an area they would like to learn more about, and select relevant learning or continuing professional development opportunities.
Continuing education facilitates improvement of professional knowledge and skill and helps pharmacy technicians and pharmacists keep informed about changes in the professions. Many pharmacists and pharmacy technicians select learning opportunities that have been accredited by the Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP).
Recently, the CCCEP has developed a series of articles exploring the value of continuing education and accreditation and overviewing CCCEP’s role. ACP encourages registrants to review the CCCEP article series to learn about opportunities for education, innovation, and initiatives that you can use within your own professional development and potentially for CCP annual requirements.
The first article explores the value of high quality continuing education for pharmacy professionals, the difference it can make to their practice and careers, and the role accreditation can play in ensuring the quality of continuing education. Other articles feature interviews with pharmacy professionals who share the impact that continuing education has had on their careers.
By identifying appropriate learning activities and implementing that learning into practice, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists can continually build their competence and confidence to assure themselves, their patients, and their healthcare colleagues that they are providing quality care throughout their career. CCCEP’s articles, including a variety of first-hand accounts from pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across Canada, provide useful information to improve your practice.
