Practice framework

The information in this section establishes the expectations of the college about the practice of pharmacy and the operation of licensed pharmacies in Alberta. Pharmacy professionals are also held to these expectations by the public and other health professionals.

• The Code of Ethics are the foundation for professional behaviour, actions, and attitudes of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
• The standards are the requirements for the practice of pharmacy and the operation of licensed pharmacies.
• Guidance and guidelines establish the professionally accepted means by which regulated members can achieve compliance with the standards.
• Legislation, both provincial and federal, provide the parameters within which regulated members practise and pharmacies operate.
• Understanding professionalism introduces you to ACP’s six tenets of professionalism—qualities that pharmacists and pharmacy professionals live and demonstrate each day.
• Advice to the professions support regulated members in meeting or exceeding the standards.
