Another year has come and gone and 2026 is well underway. I hope everyone had a chance to refresh, recharge, and spend some quality time with family and friends during the holiday break.
For pharmacy teams—and for ACP—2026 is an important year. Since last spring, the college’s administration team and Council have worked with external consultants to develop a new three-year strategic plan for ACP. We are now putting the finishing touches on the plan in preparation for final Council review and approval in February. Once approved, we will share our three-year plan with regulated members and the public. We are confident our strategic planning process drew out the themes that we need to focus on for the next three years, and enabled us to set goals to help ensure that Albertans continue to have access to quality pharmacy care in the present and the future.
While it’s important for the college to set goals and be proactive in its approach to regulation, we also need to react from time to time. That is certainly the case at the moment as the provincial government has introduced several pieces of legislation that will impact the college in terms of our policies and our work to regulate the practice of pharmacy professionals in Alberta. The ACP team is currently reviewing the legislation and college policies to ensure compliance. You can learn more about the new legislation in The Link. Rest assured that any changes that occur due to new legislation will be communicated to regulated members, so please stay tuned.
One thing’s for sure, the year ahead will be filled with opportunities and challenges. As pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, let’s be ready to take them on and make 2026 a successful year.
