CP council has approved changes that are the start of an in-depth review of the competence program to take place over the next year (see the January/February 2013 acpnews for a summary). One of the approved changes is that pharmacists who have received additional prescribing authorization will be exempt from selection for competence assessment for five years. Pharmacists who received additional prescribing authorization within the last five years were excluded from the selection process for the 2013-2014 cohort.
If you received notice that you have been selected for Competence Assessment, you must select one of the assessment options by April 29, 2013 as outlined in the notification that you received. You have until April 30, 2014 to complete the assessment.
Submitting an application for additional prescribing authorization does not satisfy the requirements of the competence program. However, if your application is successful and you are granted additional prescribing authorization before April 30, 2014, you may notify ACP that you wish to be exempted from your Competence Assessment. You will not be required to complete the assessment.
