How would you like to eliminate failures before they occur in your pharmacy? We have a new module to help you do just that.
Mitigate risks in your practice
Together with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada (ISMP Canada), we are pleased to introduce the second module for The Systems Approach to Quality Assurance: A Framework for Mitigating Risk.
The system is a toolbox you can use to help you have a quality assurance process in place – a requirement of the Standards. It is not an ACP requirement to use this system, but we believe this information will be of value to you regardless of whether or not you already have a system in place.
Getting started
Review the framework and two narrated PowerPoint presentations on the ACP website:
The Systems Approach to Quality Assurance for Pharmacy Practice: A Framework for Mitigating Risk
Learn the step-by-step process of how to use Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to help your pharmacy team meet the quality assurance objectives of the Standards for the Operation of Licensed Pharmacies and access FMEA tools and templates to assist your analysis.
The Systems Approach for Quality Assurance for Pharmacy Practice: A Framework for Mitigating Risk- Module 1 (online presentation)
Learn about the origin and use of FMEA.
The Systems Approach for Quality Assurance for Pharmacy Practice: A Framework for Mitigating Risk- Module 2 (online presentation)
Upon completing this learning module, you will be able to:
- Identify and reduce risks in your practice setting using FMEA.
- Enhance patient safety and prevent harm from reaching your patients.
- Identify processes in pharmacy practice settings that are suitable for analysis using FMEA.
- Participate as a team member in an FMEA, and with experience, lead a team yourself.
Earn continuing education units by documenting these learning activities using the Non-Accredited Learning Record template. For more information, please contact your pharmacy practice consultants or email professionalpractice@pharmacists.ab.ca.
