To ensure that FluMist® was delivered in a timely fashion, Alberta Health accepted the FluMist® Quadrivalent product. The Quadrivalent product has been brought in from the United States and will not include the Canadian product monograph or the DIN with the packaging (the DIN is 02426544).
Product notes
- The Quadrivalent live attenuated influenza vaccine (QLAIV) intranasal spray vaccine Flumist® (distributed in Canada by AstraZeneca) is a thimerosal-free product.
- QLAIV is recommended for healthy children 9 – 17 years of age without any contraindication to live vaccines or to QLAIV.
- When QLAIV is contraindicated, inactivated trivalent influenza vaccines should be considered.
- Ideally, FluMist® should only be administered to adults (18 – 59 years of age) who refuse injectable influenza vaccine (i.e., are needle-phobic).
