CCP requirements

In this Section

NOTE: Pharmacy technicians – if you have renewed your annual practice permit for 2025-26, please note that the new version of CCP is currently under construction in Academy and will be ready to access in January 2026. Thank you for your patience!

ACP’s evolved Continuing Competence Program (CCP) is based upon the broad foundation of the tenets of professionalism and demonstrate a more holistic appreciation to the diverse roles and development needs of pharmacy professionals as described in the Professionalism Framework.

CCP cycle

The CCP requires the following of all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians each CCP cycle, formerly known as continuing education or CE cycle.

  • For pharmacists, the CCP cycle begins June 1 of any year and ends May 31 of the following year.
  • For pharmacy technicians, the CCP cycle begins December 1 of any year and ends November 30 of the following year.

Requirements

Pharmacists and pharmacy techicians can access all program materials through Academy. All CCP requirements must be submitted to ACP via Academy in order to apply to renew your practice permit.

  1. You must complete and document at least 15 continuing education units (CEUs) during each CCP cycle that relate to your professional practice.
  2. You must complete any learning assigned by the Competence Committee.
  3. You must choose a descriptor under the Active Learner tenet and answer the associated questions.
  4. You must choose a descriptor from another tenet and answer the associated questions.

For more information about the rules and requirements of the CCP, refer to the CCP manual.

Practice Improvement Program

In some cases, registrants may be referred to ACP’s Practice Improvement Program (PIP). While participating in the program, registrants will work with the ACP competence staff and the competence committee to develop and carry out a plan to improve areas of their practice. The competence committee will assign activities to help those referred to the program to learn and improve their practice.

For more information on the Practice Improvement Program, refer to the CCP manuals for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians or to our Full Scale article.
