Council update

January 7, 2025
Board room meeting
Highlights from the December 2024 ACP Council meeting.

The following are highlights from the ACP Council meeting held December 10-12, 2024.

Governance review

Council continues its work to review its current governance model and potential updates and changes to ensure Council meetings are efficient, Council members have well-defined roles and responsibilities, and Council policies are consistent with the college’s mandate from the Health Professions Act.

Governance discussions will continue at Council’s next meeting in March 2025.

Updated model compounding and repackaging agreement

On April 1, 2025, compounding and repackaging pharmacies will only be able to provide compounding and repackaging services to licensed pharmacies within Alberta. In turn, licensed pharmacies in Alberta will only be able to receive compounding and repackaging services from pharmacies located in Alberta. This policy was communicated to pharmacy licensees in 2024.

To support this change in policy, Council approved a new compounding and repackaging model agreement available to licensed pharmacies seeking to establish an agreement with a compounding and repackaging pharmacy. Changes to the model agreement include an emphasis on providing and receiving compounded and/or repackaged drugs within Alberta.

Watch for more communication from ACP when the updated model agreement becomes available.

2025 Budget approved

Council approved ACP’s budget for 2025. Included in the budget is a 2.7 per cent increase in fees charged by ACP, based on the cost-of-living allowance data provided by the Conference Board of Canada. Complete details about ACP’s fees for 2025 can be found in the Fee schedule.
