Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians now have access to ACP’s evolved Continuing Competence Program (CCP) in Academy.
The evolved program empowers pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to focus on the learning activities that are important to their practices. The program was designed to
- be more user friendly,
- shift the focus from learning and implementing to a more holistic appreciation of professional development, and
- better recognize the differences between the pharmacy professions.
Evolved CCP key takeaways
Getting to know Academy
ACP’s new online learning platform was designed to centralize all educational experiences for regulated members. To help familiarize pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with the new system, support videos are available in Academy and a step-by-step help guide is also available to provide support along the way.
ACP’s competence director, Pamela Timanson, speaks to what has changed and why in the evolved CCP.
Annual requirements
To meet your annual CCP requirements, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will complete
- a minimum of 15 CEUs of learning,
- the prescribed learning activity or activities,
- one descriptor from the active learner tenet, and
- one descriptor from any one of the other five tenets.
Condensed documentation
You are no longer required to complete and submit learning and implementation records in a professional portfolio. Instead, you can input your learning activities in a condensed fashion using the process outlined in Academy.
Professionalism Framework descriptors
As described in the guide, part of your CCP submission will include reflecting on the activities you completed throughout the year (i.e., the CCP cycle) through the lens of the Professionalism Framework, using two tenets of professionalism.
To complete this process, you will use the active learner tenet along with one other tenet of your choosing. For those two tenets, you then choose one descriptor in each and answer the related questions. Your responses may relate to the learning you have completed throughout the year, but they do not have to. Even though there are several descriptors provided for each tenet, you only need to choose one of them. This builds a high degree of choice into the CCP for you.
