Alberta pharmacies may provide compounded or repackaged drugs to the territory.

On April 1, 2025, the revised policy for compounding and repackaging (C&R) licensed pharmacies in Alberta took effect. It states that compounded and repackaged drugs cannot be provided from other jurisdictions to licensed pharmacies in Alberta, nor can compounded and repackaged drugs be provided by licensed pharmacies in Alberta to those in other jurisdictions. The only exception to the rule was the Northwest Territories, which currently has no compounding pharmacies, and required a separate agreement.

ACP Council has now approved an additional exception to the rule at the request of the Yukon, which is facing similar circumstances. Alberta C&R pharmacies may sign the new agreement (available on the compounding and repackaging agreements page) to help pharmacies in the Yukon meet patients’ needs.
