New website for reporting drug shortages

February 10, 2026
Important information for pharmacy teams from Health Canada.

The following is a message from Health Canada:

On January 18, 2026, the Drug Shortages Canada website (drugshortagescanada.ca) was transitioned to the Health Product Shortages Canada website (healthproductshortages.ca). All traffic from the old website will automatically be redirected to the new website for a period of time.

Mandatory reporting of drug shortages and discontinuations must now be done through the new website.

The overall use of the website has not changed for public users.

There are however changes for users with accounts and mobile access, including the following:

Updated API data extraction instructions

An updated application programming interface (API) has been introduced to facilitate data extraction from the new website. Full details and documentation are now available on the new website. Please reprogram your API connections to ensure uninterrupted service.

Mandatory password resets

Users must complete a one-time password reset before they can log in to their account on the new website. Password resets will also be required every 90 days thereafter. Please see below for the one-time password reset instructions:

  1. Navigate to the “Log in” page and select the “I’ve forgotten my password” link.
  2. Enter your account email and select the “Request New Password” button.
  3. Check your email (including spam/junk) for the password reset email.
  4. In the password reset email, select the link provided and from the webpage which opens, create a new password and select the “Change password” button.
  5. You can now log in using your new password.

Email notifications

All website-generated email notifications will be sent from a new email address, do-not-reply@healthproductshortages.ca. Please add this new email address to your trusted senders list to avoid missing important notifications.

Updated mobile application

The mobile application will be updated to reflect the new name, Health Product Shortages Canada. Users with the current Drug Shortages Canada app installed on their mobile device will be prompted to update their application. The updated app will also be available for download in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

If you have any questions or require assistance during this transition, please contact drug.shortages-penurie.de.medicament@hc-sc.gc.ca.
