Ordering laboratory tests is not a restricted activity in Alberta. However, Standard 3.7 requires that pharmacists only order laboratory tests:
- That the pharmacist is personally competent to order and interpret; and
- That are indicated to assist in the management of drug therapy for a patient.
Should other laboratory testing be required, pharmacists should collaborate with other health professionals on the patient’s team to facilitate ordering of them.
