These are further complicated by human factors that most teams are experiencing, like fatigue and stress. Your efforts are valued and appreciated but it is important to be realistic that efforts are not limitless without consequence.
Despite good intentions to meet growing demand, it is important that pharmacy teams take time to ensure that quality is not negatively impacted by quantity. To minimize risk, a good practice is to assign a team member to oversee processes and practices to ensure quality is maintained, despite disruption and increased pressure on the team. In February, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) published a safety bulletin on preventing errors with COVID-19 vaccines. This resource is short and easy to use. Try to invest a few minutes with your team and assess your practice and the processes of your team against these recommendations. It’s a small investment that may prove valuable to both your patients and your team.
