Prevention is key

October 21, 2025
Two important ways to help prevent practice incidents and close calls.

Prevention of practice incidents in the pharmacy is a focus of ACP’s new continuous quality improvement program, CQI+. Safety self-assessments and CQI meetings are among several strategies outlined in the Prevent section of ACP’s Guide to CQI+, and both are now explained in helpful new videos.

In the first new video, pharmacy practice consultant Tyler Watson describes how the safety self-assessment tool can help pharmacy teams proactively identify risks in their practices.

CQI Meetings are regular opportunities for teams to talk openly about safety and quality in their pharmacy, but many teams may be wondering how to structure them to be efficient and effective. The second new video illustrates what a CQI meeting can look like, and how it can create an environment that empowers a strong, positive safety culture in the pharmacy.

Remember that all Alberta pharmacies must implement CQI+ by February 1, 2026.
