Preceptor training requirements

To be eligible to be a preceptor in the SPT program, a pharmacist must meet the eligibility requirements as outlined in the SPT rules.

One of the requirements is to complete the mandatory preceptor training available in Academy. The training consists of the following components:

  • SPT Overview,
  • Assessment training,
  • Preceptor skill development, which includes the following mandatory online modules:
    • Developing clinical reasoning, and
    • Feedback and evaluation.
  • Preceptor undertaking agreement, and
  • Preceptor resources.

If you are considering to be a preceptor or would like to learn more about the SPT program, we encourage you to complete the preceptor training available in Academy.

Once you have completed the training and meet the preceptor eligibility requirements in accordance with the SPT rules, you may start accepting candidates. To accept a candidate in the SPT program, you will need to provide your candidate a completed Preceptor acceptance form. Your candidate will then submit this form on your behalf when they enroll in the SPT program. You will be notified by email once ACP has approved you to be the candidate’s preceptor.
