Paxlovid, the antiviral medication used to treat COVID-19, is now available for all pharmacies to order through their wholesale distributor. Alberta Health is urging all pharmacies that choose to dispense Paxlovid to have at least one course of treatment on hand at all times. This will help avoid any delays in beginning treatment.
If a pharmacy receives a prescription for Paxlovid and is unable to fill it, the pharmacy team must refer the patient to a pharmacy that can fill the prescription. To assist in this process, Alberta Blue Cross has developed a mapping tool that shows which pharmacies have Paxlovid in stock and their contact information.
All pharmacies are asked to submit inventory information related to Paxlovid on the Alberta Blue Cross Pharmacy Provider webpage.
