As ACP completes random audits of pharmacists’ professional declarations, a trend has revealed that some pharmacists are not meeting the first aid and CPR requirements to successfully maintain their authorization to administer drugs by injection.
This is a reminder that all pharmacists must have current and valid first aid and CPR certification to quality for authorization to administer drugs by injection. CPR certification must be level C or HCP. Level B will not be accepted. For both CPR and first aid certifications, pharmacists must attend an in-person or blended course. Courses delivered solely online are not acceptable. Also, the courses must be offered, and taken, in Canada.
While there are many online and foreign options readily available to complete both first aid and CPR training, these courses do not meet ACP’s requirements as described above.
For more information and a list of examples of courses that meet ACP’s requirements, visit the Authorization to administer drugs by injection webpage.
