Learning objectives:
- Understand the medical model of addiction.
- Become familiar with the unique pharmacology of methadone.
- Develop decision making skills essential to safe and effective methadone treatment.
- Develop ability to manage stable MMT patients.
- Appreciate the value of sensitivity, understanding and commitment in the delivery of addictions medicine in clinical practice.
- Receive the prerequisite knowledge for receiving further training on MMT initiation and management of the unstable patient.
- Understand the staged care approach of MMT in Alberta and roles of the treatment team members.
- Increased awareness of the Standards and Guidelines for Methadone Maintenance Treatment in Alberta.
