Calling all aspiring pharmacy leaders!

April 3, 2019
ACP Leadership Forum helps build confidence and leadership skills.

Are you eager to learn new thought processes and skills and step out of your comfort zone? If you are ready to lead in a world of constant change, ACP is offering you the chance to attend a leadership forum.

During this two-day event, facilitators will guide participants through group and individual learning activities designed to build confidence and leadership skills valuable to your practice, your community, and your home.

Brianne Feduniw is a technical practice leader at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

“I was kind of scared to apply so I didn’t, and then last year I was in a formal leadership position and that’s when my manager and colleagues told me it was great networking and a great learning experience, and that I should apply,” said Brianne.

Brianne knows the skills she learned to overcome barriers have proven to be invaluable to her, and there’s another benefit.

“It was a huge opportunity for me to meet some of my colleagues from across the province in community, hospital practice, pharmacists, technicians and also meet the ACP people,” she said. “And to be able to attend the ACP Celebration of Leadership was incredible.”

Josiah Akinde is a pharmacy manager in Calgary.

“I had heard of it once, but I didn’t really pay attention. When I saw the ad last year, I read it and thought, okay this sounds interesting,” explained Josiah.

Josiah advises participants to identify an issue or problem before arriving at the forum but be willing to consider new approaches.

“Don’t go with your own opinion that it has to be this way,” said Josiah. “Be open minded, but have something concrete in mind to discuss, that’s the best way to learn from that program. The issue doesn’t have to be work related it can be family related. I would encourage people, whatever you learn, don’t just let it end there. Make it part of your life, it really helps. It’s a program about your life. It’s not just your work; it’s about everything.”

Brianne has some advice for those who are considering applying.

“Just do it!” she said. “It takes courage to step out of your comfort zone, but I think that the reward really outweighs the fear.”

If you have an interest in building your leadership capacity, consider applying to attend this year’s event!
