Health Canada update on EpiPen shortage

August 8, 2018
Both EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. autoinjectors are in short supply through August.

Health Canada has provided an update on the shortage of EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. autoinjectors on their website.

ACP’s advice to pharmacists is to manage your EpiPen inventory supplies carefully, trying to ensure that those at greatest risk have access to them.

Health Canada’s advice to members of the public who have EpiPens is to hang on to them, even if they are past their expiry date. In an emergency, an expired EpiPen is better than nothing. Regardless, if the EpiPen is expired or not, members of the public should attend the nearest hospital once they have used an EpiPen.

If you need an EpiPen and are unable to secure one, talk with your pharmacist about potential alternatives.
