Honourary Member receives U of A Distinguished Alumni Award

September 4, 2012

Dr. Theodore (Teddy) Aaron, ’39 BSc, ’42 MD was the first person in Alberta to administer penicillin, and his research led to the use of antihistamines in cold medications. He worked with a pharmacist to design eye drops incorporating a drug normally inhaled; that preparation was marketed as Opticrom. In collaboration with Merck, he designed the first nasal steroid aerosol spray for use on seasonal and perennial rhinitis and the control of nasal polyps.

In recognition of these outstanding contributions, Dr. Aaron was named as an honourary member of the Alberta Pharmaceutical Association in 1988, selected as a Pharmacy Centennial Award of Distinction winner in 2011, and now will add the U of A Distinguished Alumni Award to his mantle.

The award is the Alumni Association’s most prestigious award, recognizing a living graduate whose truly outstanding achievements have earned them national or international prominence.

Congratulations Dr. Aaron!
