Learning objectives:
 
  • Understand the medical model of addiction.
  • Become familiar with the unique pharmacology of methadone.
  • Develop decision making skills essential to safe and effective methadone treatment.
  • Develop ability to manage stable MMT patients.
  • Appreciate the value of sensitivity, understanding and commitment in the delivery of addictions medicine in clinical practice.
  • Receive the prerequisite knowledge for receiving further training on MMT initiation and management of the unstable patient.
  • Understand the staged care approach of MMT in Alberta and roles of the treatment team members.
  • Increased awareness of the Standards and Guidelines for Methadone Maintenance Treatment in Alberta.
