New public members appointed to Council

September 29, 2021
Appointments of Jane Wachowich and Jason West complete current Council roster.

The Minister of Health has appointed two additional public members to the Council of the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP), bringing the number of public members to seven and the total number of Council members to 14.

On June 24, 2021, Jane Wachowich was appointed for a three-year term, expiring on June 22, 2024.

Jane’s background is in corporate and commercial law and mid-sized business operations. She is an experienced executive officer, a board member, and is a pro-bono corporate legal advisor. She is a founder and the executive director of Youth Centres of Calgary. Its mission is to give children in Calgary’s underserved communities a free space to “be kids,” learn, engage, and to break the cycles of poverty. Jane received a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta.

On August 10, 2021, Jason West was appointed for a two-year term, expiring on August 9, 2023.

Jason is the president and vice-chancellor (full professor of philosophy) at Newman Theological College in Edmonton, where he has taught philosophy, ethics, and logic courses since 2004. Jason has also been a member of the Board of Governors of St. Joseph’s College at the University of Alberta since 2012 and a member of the Edmonton Catholic Agencies Network since 2016. He has a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Waterloo.

Council now includes 50 per cent public members appointed by the Minister, as required by amendments to the Health Professions Act.
