Reminder: Alberta Immunization Regulation changes

December 23, 2020
Pharmacists must register for online reporting portal before December 31, 2020.

Starting January 1, 2021, pharmacists must ensure they have a process to meet the Immunization Regulation which requires health practitioners to report immunizations and related assessments electronically to Alberta Health.

This is a reminder that pharmacists must submit their online access request to access the web portal, called the Immunization Direct Submission Mechanism (IDSM), prior to December 31, 2020. Once submitted, Alberta Health will work to grant access to the web portal as quickly as possible. Access to the portal will allow you to record vaccination events directly into the electronic health record as required by changes to Alberta’s Immunization Regulation.

Because there is a delay in processing approvals, Alberta Health has indicated they will not seek to penalize pharmacists who have completed the application process but haven’t received access by January 1, 2021. However, Alberta Health reminds all health professionals of their obligation to meet the regulations and to submit their request for access to use the IDSM to satisfy this requirement prior to December 31, 2020.

Pharmacists can register to access the IDSM by following these instructions. Alberta Health has updated their registration form to clarify and simplify the application process.
