Ways to recruit pharmacy professionals during COVID-19 pandemic

April 1, 2020
Inactive pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are invited to return to practice temporarily.

To help support the increased demand for health services during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alberta Health Emergency Operation Centre has asked regulated health professions to facilitate the return of retired or otherwise nonpractising members to practice.

In response to this, ACP has developed a policy to allow individuals who recently became inactive (not on the clinical pharmacist or pharmacy technician register in Alberta within the last three years) and/or are actively registered within another Canadian jurisdiction to be granted

  • conditional registration solely for the emergency purposes of providing professional services in Alberta during the COVID-19 pandemic, and
  • a practice permit, with conditions, until July 31, 2020.

We recently reached out to inactive pharmacists and pharmacy technicians via email. In our communication to these groups, we encouraged individuals interested in returning to practice to visit the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association (RxA) career opportunities page and the Pharmacy Technician Society of Alberta (PTSA) job board.

If you find yourself in need of additional pharmacists or pharmacy technicians as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we encourage you to consider posting your available job opportunities on the RxA and PTSA websites.
