Less than seven months remain for pharmacy teams engaged in non-sterile compounding to meet the deadlines for the first two priorities indicated in the Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Non-sterile Preparations. Pharmacies that provide any non-sterile compounding services—regardless of frequency—must be compliant with Priority One (Assessing risks and gaps) and Priority Two (Compounding and cleaning, personnel training, and quality assurance) by January 1, 2020.
Risk assessments must be completed for each preparation compounded by the pharmacy. The pharmacy’s licensee and/or non-sterile compounding supervisor are responsible for ensuring risk assessments are performed.
For more information on how to perform a risk assessment and the resources available, read our April 17, 2019, Link article.
