Influenza season in Alberta is right around the corner and there are published reports predicting a busier-than-normal season based on experiences in other parts of the world. In Australia, confirmed flu cases were the most in five years and triple the yearly average, while in New Zealand, influenza-related hospitalizations hit a seven-year high.
ACP has updated our Seasonal influenza information webpage that includes information on Alberta Health’s Influenza Immunization Policy, information for health professionals from Alberta Health Services, reporting requirements (including reporting adverse events), vaccine storage and handling, and other resources.
Alberta Health indicates that the Influenza Immunization Program will begin on October 17, 2022, for the public. The Alberta Outreach Program, which focuses on providing influenza immunization services to those at highest risk of severe outcomes, will begin earlier in October.
