Pharmacy technicians, it’s time to submit your application for your 2026 practice permit in myACP. This year, there are a few requirements to prepare for before you are eligible to renew.
Add your professional liability insurance records
Pharmacy technicians are reminded that it is now required to add and maintain your professional liability insurance (PLI) records in myACP. This process ensures all regulated members fulfill their professional obligation of maintaining PLI as you are now required to keep records of PLI up to date in myACP. It also enables PLI renewal reminders to help regulated members remember to renew their PLI regularly. You must ensure your myACP records include active and current PLI information before you start your practice permit renewal application.
As long as your myACP record includes active PLI information with an expiry date in the future (e.g., December 31, 2025), you can proceed with applying to renew your annual practice permit and update your PLI information once available.
For step-by-step instructions to help you access and update your PLI records in myACP, refer to the Updating your professional liability insurance help guide.
Make sure your information is up to date
Before you renew your practice permit, you will need to ensure that your personal and pharmacy employment information is accurate. Log in to myACP and select the “My profile” icon. From there, you can check and update your personal information (e.g., email address, mailing address, phone number) and employment information.
Complete your continuing competence requirements
The topic for this year’s prescribed learning activity for pharmacy technicians is the Scope of Practice for Pharmacy Technicians. This module explores the diverse settings pharmacy technicians practise in and the important and positive impact they have on patient care. It provides opportunities for pharmacy technicians to identify where they can collaborate with others to provide optimal patient care and contribute to the pharmacy professions.
You must ensure your Continuing Competence Program (CCP) requirements are met in the CCP Portal before renewing your practice permit. As a reminder, ensure you submit your learning and implementation records under the 2024-25 year. Review the Continuing Competence Program manual for pharmacy technicians and the Competence FAQs for more information.
What if I am choosing not to renew my practice permit?
If you no longer intend to practise pharmacy, you may choose to voluntarily cancel your pharmacy technician registration or retire. Refer to the Guide to moving to an inactive status for more information.
Your cancelled or retired status will take effect January 1, 2026, and you will no longer be permitted to practise as a pharmacy technician unless you reinstate as a regulated member.
