This is very exciting news, but please keep in mind it doesn’t come into effect until July 1. Even then, only regulated pharmacy technicians (i.e., individuals officially registered on ACP’s pharmacy technician register) may practise under indirect supervision.
For details and answers to frequently asked questions, review the special notice ACP sent on May 27.
Transition reminders
- After July 1, 2011, only those individuals on an ACP technician register may call themselves a pharmacy technician.
- A pharmacist must still assess patients and EVERY prescription to ensure the appropriateness of the drug therapy and must counsel patients.
