Individuals who have been inactive pharmacists or inactive pharmacy technicians from Alberta for less than three years are once again eligible to apply for conditional temporary registration with ACP. In March 2020, ACP granted conditional temporary practice permits to help with increasing demand in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and to support the continuity of care. Those practice permits all expired in August 2020. With the second wave of the pandemic continuing to be disruptive to Alberta’s Health System, Council has approved to resume conditional temporary registrations.
Successful applicants will receive
- conditional registration solely for the purposes of providing professional services in Alberta during the COVID-19 pandemic; AND
- a practice permit, with conditions, for 45 days from the date of issue.
As part of this conditional registration, pharmacists will not be authorized to serve as a licensee.
Additionally, anyone who is eligible for the courtesy register (i.e., holds active registration elsewhere in Canada) may be conditionally admitted to the courtesy register for the purposes of the COVID-19 pandemic. For pharmacists and pharmacy technicians from outside of Alberta, they must continue to be registered in good standing in the other Canadian province or territory.
This process will remain in effect until June 30, 2021. An extension to this date can be considered if demand suggests continued support of the workforce is needed.
