The U of A Health Sciences Council is recruiting for two interprofessional educational opportunities. They are looking for small group facilitators for an interprofessional health team development class and partners with projects that health science students taking a community service class could complete.

1. Small Group Facilitation Opportunity

IntD 410: Interprofessional Health Team Development is seeking facilitators.

In IntD 410, two facilitators lead and assess 4 teams of 6-8 interdisciplinary health science students through this 3-credit course. The curriculum emphasizes team processes and invites students to explore professional roles and how they will collaborate in practice.

The course runs weekly on Tuesdays from January 10th to March 20th (excluding Reading Week, February 21nd) from 2-5pm or 6-9pm. Three facilitator training workshops will be held from 6-9pm: November 22, 29 and December 6, 2011.

IntD 410 course facilitators receive:

  • Professional development in interprofessional education (IPE)
  • Training in small group facilitation of Discovery Learning
  • Experience facilitating small groups
  • Formal mentorship from experienced instructors
  • A $600 honorarium over 10 classes ($60/class)

2. Collaborative Project Partnership in the Health Sciences: A Community Service Learning Initiative

HSERC is currently seeking community partnerships in which interprofessional teams of health science students complete research and produce a resource relevant to a partner community group that promotes health in the community that they serve.

What is required of the Community Partner?

  • Define a project. Most often, the project will identify a gap in their existing resources, such as important information missing from their website, or a print resource that the partner would like to provide to their user group, such as a pamphlet.
  • Attend a class on January 24, 2012 to describe project (15 minutes maximum) and answer student questions.
  • Be available between the end of January and early March, 2012 to clarify project expectations and answer student questions.
  • Attend project presentations on March 6, 2012 and provide feedback on student work.
