September 17 is World Patient Safety Day! Established in 2019 by the World Health Organization, the day serves as a chance to bring together patients, families, caregivers, communities, health workers, healthcare leaders, and policy makers to show their commitment to patient safety. In recognition of this important day, ACP has been working to ensure that Albertans have access to the information they need to better understand pharmacy practice in our province.
The college recognized that the previous ‘For the public’ section of the ACP website didn’t do enough to speak directly to patients. As a result, every page was rewritten in more intuitive language, and information was added about
- how the college ensures pharmacy professionals practice safely in Alberta,
- how pharmacies are owned and managed, and
- what to do if your pharmacy makes a mistake.
The section also details how ACP’s new CQI+ program, developed with significant input from patients, helps pharmacy teams to prevent and respond to incidents. The following video was created to explain CQI+ to Albertans and highlight the invaluable contributions that patients made to the program.
