Modernizing access to Alberta Netcare

December 2, 2025
Government of Alberta logo
Important information for all Netcare users.

To enhance system access and use, while continuing to maintain strong privacy protections, Netcare is modernizing its governance framework. As part of this modernization, all paper-based Information Manager Agreements (IMAs) will be discontinued. They will be replaced by the new Access to the Alberta Electronic Health Record (Alberta Netcare) Declaration, which pharmacy licensees will accept digitally when logging into Netcare.

Effective December 1, 2025, licensees will be presented with a pop-up prompting them to accept this new declaration. Acceptance is required to complete login; declining will prevent Netcare access. Other users, including staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, will not be required to accept the declaration and will only be presented with a disclaimer on the login page. Prior to the change, only licensees needed to sign and complete IMAs to onboard to these systems, so only licensees need to accept the declaration (which replaced the IMA). All other users need to abide by the disclaimer, which outlines the Health Information Act principles that all Netcare users must follow when accessing this data.
