Preceptor training requirements

To be eligible to be a preceptor in the SPT Program, a pharmacy technician or pharmacist must meet the eligibility requirements as outlined in the SPT Program Rules for Pharmacy Technicians.

One of the requirements is to complete the mandatory preceptor training available in Academy. The training consists of the following components:

  • SPT Overview,
  • introduction to precepting and preceptor skill development,
  • activities (familiarizes preceptors with the required activities of the SPT Program),
  • assessment training,
  • preceptor undertaking, and
  • additional resources.

If you are considering becoming a preceptor or would like to learn more about the SPT Program, we encourage you to complete the preceptor training available in Academy. The training process will take approximately four hours to complete and you can claim unaccredited continuing education units (CEUs) for the training.

If you’re having trouble navigating the SPT Program, refer to the step-by-step guide for more information.

Once you have completed the training and meet the preceptor eligibility requirements in accordance with the SPT Rules, you may start accepting candidates. To accept a candidate in the SPT Program, you will need to provide your candidate a completed Preceptor acceptance form. Your candidate will then submit this form on your behalf when they enroll in the SPT program. You will be notified by email once ACP has approved you to be the candidate’s preceptor.
