Nominate a colleague for the Honorary Life Membership or Honorary Membership award

February 22, 2023
The nomination deadline is April 6, 2023!

The list of past recipients for ACP’s Honorary Life Membership award is impressive indeed:

  • 2022 – Rosemary Backovsky, a pharmacist who served with the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) and was a Council member with the Alberta Pharmaceutical Association (APhA). She was an early advocate for an expanded scope of practice for pharmacists.
  • 2022 – Sheila Kelcher, a community pharmacist, educator with the University of Alberta (U of A), and member of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC). Sheila helped shift the U of A’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences curriculum to focus on patient care and helped develop the PEBC Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
  • 2019 – Linda Poloway, a pharmacist and leader with CSHP, APhA Council, the Health Quality Council of Alberta, and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute. Linda was a key contributor in the development of two complementary pharmacy organizations for Alberta: a regulator (ACP) and an advocate (RxA).
  • 2019 – Steve Long, former Director of Pharmacy for the Calgary Regional Health Authority and Executive Director for Alberta Health Services. Steve played a key role in the development of Calgary’s central production facility and helped plan for pharmacy services at both the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the South Health Campus Hospital.
  • 2018 – George Doherty, a community pharmacist known for formulating and developing George’s Special Dry Skin Cream.
  • 2017 – Mike Bain, a community pharmacist who established the Castor Pharmacy Museum

These are just our more recent recipients. The complete list is available on the awards page.

Do you know someone who you believe should be added to this list? Nominate them today for the highest honour the college can bestow on a former or current regulated member!

The Honorary Life Membership award is presented to a current or former regulated member who, in the opinion of Council, has rendered distinguished service to the practice of pharmacists and/or pharmacy technicians. Distinguished service is defined as long-term service to

  • the profession, having provided leadership provincially and/or nationally; and
  • the advancement of pharmacy and health care in their community through community service, philanthropy, and/or humanitarianism.

Nominations are now being accepted along with nominations for the Honorary Membership award, which is presented to an individual who has never been a regulated member and has, in the opinion of Council, rendered distinguished service (as defined above) to the practice of pharmacists and/or pharmacy technicians.

The deadline for nominations for both awards is April 6, 2023. For more information on how to submit a nomination, visit the awards page.
