Ethics & Jurisprudence Exam to resume this summer

June 10, 2020
Online exams will take place with virtual proctoring.

ACP’s Ethics & Jurisprudence Exam has been unavailable since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared. Traditionally, pharmacist and pharmacy technician candidates have taken the exam in-person at a test centre, which has not been possible since early March as all test centres have been closed.

ACP is working with a third-party provider to make the Ethics and Jurisprudence Exam available online, using a virtual proctor. Rather than writing the exam at a “brick & mortar” test centre, candidates will book a time to take the exam online. Once the candidate has a time booked, they will be given instructions about technical requirements to take the exam online (e.g., computer with a webcam, appropriate web browser, etc.) Before taking the exam, candidates will be expected to test their system to ensure they have the proper technical requirements.

At the time of the exam, candidates will login and go through a series of checks with their proctor. Examples of the types of checks performed include a review of the candidate’s picture identification and a room scan. Once those are completed, the online exam will commence.

Remember, provisional pharmacists must successfully complete the Ethics & Jurisprudence Exam before advancing to level two of the Structured Practical Training (SPT) Program. Provisional pharmacy technicians must successfully complete the Ethics & Jurisprudence Exam to be eligible to work under indirect supervision in levels two and three of the SPT program or to apply for the pharmacy technician register.

ACP is hoping to have the Ethics & Jurisprudence Exam available sometime in August. Please watch for more information about the official starting date and how to book your online exam in future editions of the Link.
