October 26-30, 2026, is Canadian Patient Safety Week, an annual campaign organized by Healthcare Excellence Canada that brings people together around a shared goal: making health care safer for everyone.
This year, the campaign is asking the following question: What shapes safer care for you?
On the Canadian Patient Safety Week website, you can contribute your experiences, perspectives, and ideas to help shape safer care by sharing
- a word that shapes safer care for you, and/or
- a moment or experience that shaped safer care for you.
Pharmacy professionals can share their thoughts and experiences that reflect the diversity of people, roles, settings, and lived experiences across health and social care.
You can also see quotes from patients and other healthcare providers and explore other resources.
The campaign outlines that safer care is shaped every day through conversations, decisions, relationships, environments, and systems. It’s something you can apply as part of your daily routine. Safety focuses on more than just absence of harm, it’s about people feeling like they’re heard, respected, and supported during their day-to-day activities.
Pharmacy teams are encouraged to think about their day-to-day activities and routine to see how they might contribute to safety and areas they could improve. Think of things like better communication within pharmacy teams or within the patient’s circle of care, addressing workflow or staffing issues, incorporating new technology into their practice, or improving the team’s culture.
Reflect on these factors and identify one practical improvement your team could address during your next CQI meeting.
Remember, every interaction is an opportunity to strengthen safety for patients and your team.
