Reinstatement requirements

If you were previously registered as a pharmacy technician in Alberta, you may be eligible for reinstatement. An applicant for reinstatement must provide evidence to the registrar of qualifications for registration. Reinstatement requirements differ depending on your current situation and how long you’ve been inactive in Alberta. Standard reinstatement requirements are outlined below; additional requirements may be prescribed by the registrar upon consideration of your application for reinstatement.

To complete the Jurisprudence Learning Module, the Ethics and Jurisprudence Exam, and the SPT program, you must first apply for reinstatement and then complete the requirements as a provisional registrant.

If you have been inactive in Alberta for less than three years and you are registered in another province or territory, there are typically no additional reinstatement requirements. Requirements may apply based on your registration history. We do recommend that you complete the learning activities prescribed by the Competence Committee in the Continuing Competence Program (prescribed learning activities) for each year you were inactive. The prescribed learning activities are available in the Learning Activity Archives in Academy.

Reinstatement application

If you were previously registered as a pharmacy technician in Alberta, you may be eligible for reinstatement. Reinstatement requirements differ depending on your current situation and how long you’ve been inactive in Alberta. You may be initially placed on the provisional register to complete the reinstatement requirements, such as the ACP Ethics and Jurisprudence Exam.

Follow these steps once you are ready to apply for reinstatement:

  1. Prepare your supporting documentation. All documents must be in PDF format.
  1. Complete and submit your application.
    • Once you are ready to apply, complete the following steps:

      • The application will require you to upload the supporting documentation you prepared in Step 1.
  1. Provide payment for your application.
    • Once you submit your application, you will be required to provide payment online. The college’s fees are outlined in the ACP fee schedule. Only the following payment methods will be accepted:
      • Visa,
      • Visa Debit,
      • Mastercard, or
      • Debit Mastercard.
    • If you have been inactive in Alberta for more than three years, in addition to your application fee, you will be required to pay for one attempt at the Ethics and Jurisprudence Exam.
    • Your application is not complete until the application, all supporting documentation, and payment have been submitted.
  2. Application decision.
    • Complete applications are reviewed in the order in which they are submitted and may take up to 15 business days to assess and process. Incomplete applications will result in further delays. ACP will notify you via email once your application has been reviewed to indicate next steps or if we have any questions regarding your application.
  3. Provide payment for your practice permit.
    • If you have been approved to the pharmacy technician register, you will be required to provide payment for your practice permit. The college’s fees are outlined in the ACP fee schedule. Only the following payment methods will be accepted:

  4. Access your practice permit.
    • Once payment has been processed your practice permit can be accessed from your myACP profile.

If you are initially placed on the provisional register, once the reinstatement requirements are completed, you will need to apply to the pharmacy technician register. You must not practise until you receive notification that your practice permit is issued.
