The term of a provisional pharmacy technician practice permit is typically two years and commences when the practice permit is issued. Provisional pharmacy technicians have two years to meet the entry-to-practice requirements to be a pharmacy technician.
According to the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians Profession Regulation, if a provisional registrant does not meet the requirements for registration within two years, the registrar must remove the provisional registrant from the register. However, on application by the registrant, the registrar may consider extending the two-year period if the registrar is satisfied that there are extenuating circumstances.
If, due to extenuating circumstances, your practice permit is going to expire before you have met the entry-to-practice requirements, you may submit an application to extend term of practice permit to registrationinfo@abpharmacy.ca.
If your practice permit has expired, you are not permitted to practise pharmacy. You may reapply should you wish to return to the provisional pharmacy technician register.
