A pharmacy relocation occurs when an existing pharmacy relocates to a nearby location and intends to continue providing services to the same clientele with no other major changes (e.g., no change in licensee, proprietor, or licence category). If there are any major changes, you are required to apply for a new pharmacy licence.

When a pharmacy relocates, the existing pharmacy licence terminates, and the licensee is issued a new pharmacy licence. The licensee should submit a complete application to relocate the pharmacy to ACP at least 45 days before plans to relocate to the new location.

If you wish to relocate the pharmacy, the licensee must adhere to the following steps:

  1. Prepare your supporting documentation. All documentation must be in PDF format.
    • Prepare a floor plan depicting the physical facilities, intended use of space, and layout of the entire licensed pharmacy. This plan must comply with the floor plan requirements guide, and any submissions that do not comply with this guide will be rejected.
    • Prepare a floor plan showing the overall facilities, space, and layout of the premises. If the pharmacy shares premises with another business (e.g., medical clinic), you must complete the shared premises form.
    • If the relocation of the pharmacy includes sterile compounding, you must submit the sterile floorplan preliminary questionnaire.
  2. Complete and submit your application. This must be submitted by the licensee.
    • Complete the application to relocate the pharmacy (in myACP). All applications can be found in the Catalog.
    • The application will require you to upload the supporting documentation prepared in step 1.
  3. Provide your payment.
    • Once you submit your application, you will be required to provide payment. The college’s fees are outlined in the ACP fee schedule. Only the following payment methods will be accepted:
      • Visa, and
      • Mastercard.
    • Your application is not complete until the application, all supporting documentation, and payment have been submitted.
  4. Application decision.
    • Complete applications are reviewed in the order in which they are submitted and may take up to 15 business days to assess and process. Incomplete applications will result in further delays. ACP will notify you via email once a decision has been made or if we have any questions regarding your application.
  5. Begin your relocation.
    • Once the application to relocate the pharmacy has been conditionally accepted, you may begin the process of relocating to the new location. If there are changes to the proposed floorplan or relocation date, as indicated in the application, please email ACP at pharmacy@abpharmacy.ca.
    • A new pharmacy licence is issued when the pharmacy relocates. Two weeks prior to opening the relocated pharmacy, you must contact ACP for your pending licence number. Due to the new licence number, you will need to establish a new account with Alberta Blue Cross and drug wholesalers.
    • When the licensee is ready to open the relocated pharmacy, they must access the pharmacy profile in myACP and enter their official opening date. Click on “View my profile,” scroll down to the “My pharmacy” section, and enter the “Initial open date” under “Demographics” in the “Contact” tab. As of the date that the pharmacy relocates and starts providing pharmacy services from the new location, the former pharmacy location is no longer permitted to provide pharmacy services and the former pharmacy licence is terminated.
  6. Schedule your relocation inspection.
    • After the relocation is complete, within 30 days, email ACP at pharmacy@abpharmacy.ca and submit your pharmacy inspection readiness form to schedule the required inspection. Ensure all required images have been added to the digital evidence submission template and are ready to be submitted once a ShareFile account is provided. A pharmacy practice consultant will target to schedule an inspection of the pharmacy within one month to ensure the pharmacy meets the foundational requirements.
    • A new pharmacy licence will be mailed to the relocated pharmacy.
